ROOFERS Tottenham

Re-roofs and repairs across Tottenham's Victorian terraces

Tottenham roofs are dominated by Victorian slate on the terraces running through South Tottenham, Bruce Grove and the streets off Lordship Lane, with a steady share of conversion-flat rear-extension flat roofs and post-war estate stock through Tottenham Hale. JP Building Services are roofers in Tottenham covering the whole of N15 and N17. For non-roofing work see property maintenance in Tottenham.

OUR PROCESS

How we run a Tottenham roofing job

Many Tottenham terraces share chimney stacks with the neighbour, which is slow on a ladder; here is how an N15 or N17 roofing job runs from drone inspection.

Inspection by ladder or drone

Tottenham terraces have shared chimney stacks that are slow on a ladder. A drone scan gives clear photos before any quote lands.

Written quote with materials named

Slate or tile, underlay grade, ventilation route and lead spec all named. Fixed price.

Scheduled with a weather window

Scaffold and skip permits with Haringey Council are arranged in advance.

PROPERTIES WE WORK ON

Property types we look after in Tottenham

Tottenham roofs split into three groups. Victorian terraces dominate, with slate pitched roofs, original lead detail and frequently a secondary flat roof over the rear extension. Conversion flats add shared rear-extension roofs that need coordination on any work. Post-war estate stock through Tottenham Hale and around Northumberland Park carries different specifications, often with felt or asphalt flat roofs. Mansion blocks near Seven Sisters carry a mix of pitched and flat roofs.

Why Tottenham owners choose JP Building Services

EXPERTISE

Re-roofing Tottenham's Victorian terraces: typical scope

The Victorian terraces running through Tottenham were built between roughly 1880 and 1910 with Welsh slate on a pitched roof, original lead at the chimney back and tall stretcher-bond shared chimneys. Welsh slate has a working life of 80 to 120 years, which means a lot of these roofs are now reaching end of life.

When we re-roof one of these terraces we strip in sections to keep the building weathertight. Original slate gets sorted into three piles: sound and reusable, sound but tired, and broken. Sound slate goes back on the front face where it is most visible from the street; new or reclaim fills the rear. Underlay is breathable membrane on new battens.

Lead at the chimney back gutter and side abutments is hand-formed in milled lead. Ridge tiles bed back in lime mortar so they move with the seasons. Vents go in at eaves and ridge. See chimney repair for the related stack work.
